Bobbie leaned away from the bathroom mirror, calculating the hours as she applied her lipgloss. It had been about one hundred and thirty-two hours since she and Derek had kissed on that smelly, super gross couch. She dropped the lip gloss on the counter before she came downstairs. Bye dad!” she yelled out, having already said bye to her mom. She made a slight face as her mom and dad looked at each other in confusion before he cleared his throat and echoed out to her, “Bye bobbie, have a good day sweetie”. It was just a couple of quick stops before she got to campus. Coffee for herself, and breakfast for someone else. Plus she had to stop into the office to use the copier. “ Can you break into the locker for me?” she asked, peeking her head into the library. The nerdy character in front of her flinched at her talking to him. Okay. Maybe she had terrorized him a few times in order to make him get access into the school system to take her out of gym class. Bobbie rolled her eyes, ” Look, I’ll give you a breakfast burrito,” she said, before realizing she still looked mean and did her best to force a smile. Thankfully, that seemed to be enough. And once Dereks’ locker was open, Bobbie went back to placing his breakfast inside before closing it with her hip.
“ Hey babe,” Nick called out as she was approaching her locker. “ Hey,” she said, turning around to look at him, wrapping her arms around the party flyers that were in her left arm. He gave a slight smirk before leaning in to kiss her, causing Bobbie to turn so it landed on her cheek. “ Nick..” she said, shaking her head. “ Now you care whether we kiss in public?” he questioned with a lift of his eyebrow. “ I’m campaigning… “ she said before making a slight face. Bobbie was watching over his shoulder as he spoke to her, narrowing her eyes. Sara had a crush on Jake for.. god what, years now? Bobbie took in a deep breath, “ Hang on,” she said before going over. “Jake!” she called out, grabbing his arm and pulling him back. “ Can you do me a huge favor? I was supposed to give Sara a ride home, but I totes forgot that I’m getting my prom dress altered so I’m leaving early. Save me?” she lied, lifting her eyebrows and tried to ignore Sara who looked confused as hell. Bobbie had literally never spoken to her. She was mousy, with the glasses, and wide eyed stare. That girl. “ Uh, yeah… I could do that” he said with a smile before turning away. “Get contacts,” Bobbie said before smiling and turning back to Nick. “ What she was that? You’re talking to nobody’s now?”. Bobbie lift her eyebrows as she watched him, “ I turned a leaf…”she said, with a hint of ‘duh’ in her tone. “ Really? Because you’re wearing the same shirt as Kayla and you have first period together,” he said, giving her a tight smile. Bobbie fought against herself before turning her head and snapping for her friend to quickly come over. “ Go to Kayla she has like… five minutes to change and not let anyone see her,” she said, looking back at Nick. “…Partially turned leaf,” she said, stopping to give Sara who was still at her locker a flyer for her party. “ Derek!” she called out, moving past Nick. “ Bobbiepalooza…” she said, bouncing her shoulders as she handed him the flyer. “ To celebrate getting the lead in the musical and…prom queen, tada” she said before smiling brightly. “ You haven’t even gotten prom queen yet..” one of the guys on the soccer team said as he walked past them, taking a flyer for himself. ” Technicality…” she said, brushing him off before she looked back at Derek. “ See you later” she smiled, tracing her finger against the inside of his wrist since that’s about as much as she could get away with in the hallways before she headed back towards her locker. “ Did you study for econ today?” her friend Katie asked. “ Katie. I don’t have time for econ today. I have to hang up flyers, go talk to the director about my part, figure out what color prom is so I don’t clash my dress with it, and look at my college applications… God, you’re so stupid,” she said, shutting her locker before walking away.
The rest of the day was basically a count down until she could leave for choir ; technically she needed to leave her class a half hour before choir started. So when she stood up, her teacher gave her a confused expression. “ Miss Bryan, we have another half hour. Please take your seat”. Bobbie waved him off “ Thanks Mr.Fitch, but I’m done. “ she said, picking her books up before heading out of the classroom. “ Oh, by the way.. your wife was totally at the grocery store buying an anniversary card. Don’t forget,” she said, smiling politely before she left the classroom and headed down towards the choir room which was connected to the band hall. “ Okay,” she said to herself, moving her hair over her shoulder . Well they already had a piano in the choir room, and it wasn’t until now that she discovered just how heavy drum sets were, especially with how little she was. Bobbie struggled on pulling it through for about ten minutes before that was all set up. Piano,..drums… “ Guitars,” she said, going back into the band room. No guitars. She frowned before looking in the band directors office. Looking over both of her shoulders she took both the electric guitar and the bass off of his walls, before locking both of the doors by shoving a chair under it. “ Awesome,” she said, carrying them into the choir room. They were always hooked up to those big black boxes. Okay, definitely not strong enough for that. Bobbie narrowed her eyebrows before stepping out into the hallway, “….Hi.. little….manboy..hi. Can you come lift?” she said, gesturing inside the choir room behind her. So about ten minutes after that ; piano, drumkit, and the guitars were all set up. “ Cool, thanks. Here,” she said, handing him a flyer for her party. “ Um…. Don’t invite your friends…” she said hesitantly before putting her hand on his chest, pushing him out of the choir room and shutting the door. A few moments later the bell rang , and Bobbie smiled as the rest of the class filtered in.
When Mr.Schaffer walked inside, he looked at his newly remodeled classroom with skepticism before looking at Bobbie. “ Don’t ask, Mr.Schaffer. Also, you don’t even have to be here today. I’ve got this,” she said, giving a nod as she crossed her legs. “ Um..” he started, looking around. ” Mr.Schaffer. I said I got this. There’s been a lack of sign up to audition for my musical, and it’s partially your fault. Music should be….I don’t know… fun? “ she said, trying to be as polite as possible. “Shoo,” she said, brushing him away. Bobbie waited for everyone to get into the classroom, complete unaware of the natural smile that crept upon her lips as Derek walked inside in his lazy manner. “ Hey,” she said quietly before realizing that they were surrounded. “ Hi…. Choir….people. I actually don’t know any of your names,” she said, making an apologetic look. I mean, to be fair, who knew the names of beyonce’s back up singers? “ So… you guys are probably sick of listening to me sing songs.. and I mean, let’s just be on the real here.. I am not stepping away from that today. BUT.. I thought I would help spotlight a few people,” she said, holding her hands together. “Excuse me, you… in the back. With the floppy hair, and the .. nice jawline..tan arms.. “ she said, whistling for him to come forward as she gestured with her hand as well. “ You look like a…guitar player,” she said smiling, before she looked down and realized she didn’t know the difference between the regular one and the bass one. Whatever that’s what people were for. She stepped away and cleared her throat. ” I also need a drummer, bass and piano,” she said, watching as everyone sat still. “ Guys I’m seriously incorporating other people…” she said, smiling as they finally got up and went towards the instruments. “ Oh,” she said, watching as one of the girls headed towards the piano. Not a chance in hell. “You know maybe next time,” she said, placing her hands on her shoulders and turning her around to give someone else a chance to get to the piano. Because honestly, that girl was terrible. Blind kid stumbling around a strip club horrible. “ Great,” she said, going to hand out sheet music to some of them. She stood in front of Derek, lifting her eyebrow with a smile as she held the sheet music up in front of him for less than a minute before taking it down, walking away with a slight wink. “I’ll do the lead vocals… “ she said, biting her tongue to keep from adding ‘obviously’ to the end of her statement. She’d brought a total of three different selections for them to play today. One was ACDC, one was from this band The Maine, which she would need male vocals for.Well, and for ACDC,too. All eyes on Derek. And then this was one she’d been listening to on replay for the last week.
